UnUSUAL WIKI
Unusual Wiki is my passion project, where I create one-off visual representations of articles categorized as “unusual” (be they odd or unexpected) by Wikipedians. The project seeks to present whimsical information in nontraditional formats—that often include narrative—elements to encourage people to learn something new. I draw from various archives, vernacular photography, and other historical resources to inform my design decisions.
For as long as I can think back, I’ve never missed an opportunity to learn something—the more impractical the topic, the better. As a kid, I remember begging my mom in the line of Barnes and Noble to buy me a copy of Do Penguins Have Knees. Flash forward fifteen years and now I’m guaranteed to go down at least one Wiki rabbit hole per day. I find that there’s always something that can be learned—or with reference to this project, an additional element to incorporate into the creative. The deeper the research, the more effective the outcome is.
